Stump Removal

Reasons to consider stump removal:

  • Decaying wood can attract insects that may spread to healthy trees and plants, even to your home. If the tree was cut down due to disease or fungal infestation, the remaining stump and roots may still be infected. This could result in diseases spreading to other trees and plants.

  • Stumps and roots can be trip hazards to your family, guests, and/or visitors, including service professionals like your gardener. This could result in a potential liability to you.

  • Stumps can be difficult to mow around and could damage your lawnmower if a spinning blade hits the stump.

  • Stumps decrease the amount of valuable usable space in your yard.

  • Stumps can have a negative impact on the curb appeal of your property.

How a Stump is removed:

Our standard grind is 15" below grade. If you have a bigger stump in an area where you want to replant a tree and there are no utilities in the immediate area, we can grind to a depth of 25" below grade.
This is to assure that all of the old stump has been ground out and removed so your new tree's root system has plenty of room to grow and thrive.

After we have ground out a stump, we rake the grindings into a pile where the stump was previously located.
Depending on the size of the stump and the depth of the grind, the pile may settle down fairly well in 6 months - 1 year on its own. If the stump is larger (ex.  4' in diameter) and was a deeper grind, it could take up to several years for the pile to decompose and settle down close to the surrounding grade.

Hauling Away the Grindings:

In addition to stump and/or root removal, we offer the service to haul away the grindings.

Option 1: We will haul off virtually all of the grindings leaving the hole where the stump was previously located.

Option 2: Filling in the hole with premium planting soil, compacting the area, and grading it to blend in with the surrounding grade.
